What's in the name?

I have struggled over the name, I must admit. Especially when I did a search on xanga of the word "Nephilim." But it's not the name that is the important part. If we get caught up in the name we are very much missing the point. It would be like us not liking people named Mary (which I think means something like 'bitter," I think?). But since you bring that up let me tell you what I see as the significance: The picture that the modern-day-man has taken on is not someone that stands out but blends in. There are those men that stand out but he stands out because of his ability to blind in with the worlds agenda. The Nephilim were giants if they were nothing else. They stood out, not because they where pictures of what the world wants everyone to look like, but because - if nothing else - they stood tall. God's men who are fighting for His cause and not against it will stand tall. God's men will stand out. God's men will be men of renown. If the name, "Nephilim" is a stumbling block for a weaker brother then it is not so important that it needs to be hung on to.

And the character traits that were listed have nothing to do with the Nephilim of old. They are meant for God's men today. You and I. So we carry the title of a group of "beings" that messed up a long time ago. The Kansas City Royals have a history of loosing but every game they go out and try to win. Changing there name to the Yankees wouldn't help them win. It is not about the name. The concept is to not be an average modern-day-man who passes through the life God gave him without doing the job God commanded of him.

The Nephilim

The Nephilim. The book of Genesis says there were giants (Nephilim) on the earth. They were mighty men, men of renown. Evidently the Nephilim didn't fare that well back then and a lot of people have different theories on who or what the Nephilim were. But we are shooting for the "men of renown" part. So if you are trying to figure out what they were in the past, you are missing the point. We are about today, what does God have for our lives and those around us.

It hath been said...

I've heard it said that we have a higher calling. The truth is, we have the same calling as all sons of Christ...we just take it a little more seriously.

What is our calling?

What is our calling? We are called to HONOR. We are called to LEAD. We are called to PROTECT. We are called to FIGHT.

HONOR

We are called to honor our Creator, Jesus Christ, for it is the purposed for which we were created.

LEAD

We are called to lead as men were put on this earth to do. Lead our homes, families, friends looking for an example, country, and, not to seem over dramatic but, our world.

PROTECT

We are called to protect truth. Not allowing the world or well meaning, miss lead christians to trample or water down the truths clearly given in the Word of God.

FIGHT

We are called to fight for the truth. Fight for the lives (both believers and non-believers) being corrupted by the lies of the enemy, the devil and his demons.

Responsibilities, responsibilities...

But it doesn’t stop there. Men today have turned their backs on another responsibility: the women.

It is our responsibility to honor women, for they are the earthly picture of Christ’s bride and they are His princesses and should be treated as the King’s Daughters.

It is our responsibility to lead women. Not sit on the sidelines forcing the women to hold the front line. Not hiding on the back row, forcing the women to take control.

It is our responsibility to protect the women. They are precious to the King and heavily pursued by the enemy just as Eve was. They are the weaker vestal (why did satan go after Eve and not Adam? Because women are weaker then men and men’s biggest weakness is women). If we do as Adam did and stand and watch we will see our mothers, wives, sisters and sisters in Christ fall. (*Girls, cover your ears.* They are not as strong as they think they are.)

It is our responsibility to Fight for the women. God did not create women to fight. You know that desire in you to save the damsel in distress? That desire was placed there by the Creator for a reason. But because the men don’t step up, we have women feeling like they have to. We have women fighting wars, we have women fighting in our churches, we have women fighting for our families because the coward on the couch watching TV or hiding at his job or sleeping in the pews will not step forward and be the man! Or the younger cowards, rapped up in chasing an ideal, hiding behind the fake mask of lies they live to be cool. Not stepping up for the sake of peace or popularity! Reaching for lukewarmness so he won’t burn the unbeliever or be melted by the fire of God!

Why are we the Nephilim? Because we strive to be as the Nephilim were meant to be – “Men of Renown…” “Men of Honor.” We were created in the image of GOD. God is no coward, no weakling! He stood toe to toe with every enemy who rose up against Him. In the Old Testament, He lead His people into countless battles. In the New Testament, He faced the Roman soldiers, protected His Disciples, stood up to the Pharisees, turned over the temple tables in a rage, defeated satan on the cross and then rose again! He didn’t avoid confrontation. He even saved damsels in distress! And we are supposed to be His hands and feet! Oswald Chambers wrote, “My goal is God Himself…At any cost, dear Lord, by any road.” This is our calling.

So why are we the Nephilim? BECAUSE IF WE ARE NOT, WHO WILL BE?

This site is intended to be a journal of the Nephilim...a training manual, somewhere for us to process our thoughts, talk about what it takes to do what we do, to become who we want to become.

It is not easy, but we are not alone. We are part of The Crew, a small, tight-knit group made up of Lovers of Christ. Our girls---Emily, Rah and Rachel---support us and provide prayer cover.

We are the Nephilim--- Nate, Micah and Isaiah. Welcome to our mission.
